Q&A
Why the Warrior of Light Project?
Three reasons. One: I like Claude, so I like to draw Claude a lot. Two: I also like the WOL conundrum, the fact that it's left open-ended in the original story - on purpose or laziness or what, I don't know, but sometimes it works better that way. Three: I don't mind seeing more Claude, not to mention seeing other
artists draw cool things based on this prompt. "The Warrior of Light Project" is a straightforward title that also echoes the idea of a work in progress - which is what Claude's story is about.
Why Claude?
Obviously, I like him. Why? If you get down to it, he honestly isn't that remarkable or innovative as far as protagonists go, being the the archetypal bildungsroman of growing up, finding yourself et cetera. But, many elements of his character greatly appeal to me and it all converges into a package that works. He's a very likeable person, strong-headed yet self-conscious, admirably doing the best he can to make others happy despite his own issues. The shadow of expectations he lives under is something many people can identify with - particularly the way he was and is forced down a path that obviously isn't what he wanted, but eventually comes to terms with it. He also personifies many themes and topics I am passionate about, including science, education, creativity, the wonder of exploration and discovery. Overall, I'm simply very fond of his character.
How come you only focus on the SO2 game? You don't really talk about Claude in the manga, in Star Ocean EX, or in Blue Sphere.
SO2 is where his character first appeared and where I first encountered him, and as far as I'm concerned it's the "original" version of Claude. The spinoffs mentioned have done some tweaks that are not entirely appealing to me. Star Ocean EX in particular starts off decently enough, but ends up a kooky reimagining of SO2 that is hilarious for all the wrong reasons.
The Blue Sphere manga is pretty much as WTF as the anime. I haven't played the Blue Sphere game (not released outside of Japan), so any information I have would be hearsay and I don't particularly fancy that. (Technically I have played Blue Sphere, for about ten minutes thanks to a visiting friend :3 but most of that time was spent with Dias accidentally falling off cliffs, and that is not exactly prime character development material.)
MMSFFDSLD:Fjlew!! Where did you get that Lego Claude? Are there other Star Ocean legos??
Sorry, there aren't! Lego Claude was a commissioned piece made by Lego craftsman Norbert Black, a wonderful gentleman to whom you can direct all your custom Lego figure inquiries :3 You can check out more of his fantastic work here.
